Global Microsoft Outage
This morning, we have woken up to the news of a major IT outage that has impacted businesses globally. From what we know so far, the issue has been caused by a flawed CrowdStrike update that was rolled out globally. Microsoft has confirmed on social media that it is investigating an “issue impacting users’ ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.”
The issue is affecting airports in the UK, US and Australia with many flights being grounded. Inevitably this will result in long delays and Ryanair has asked passengers to allow extra journey time and has issued the following statement – “We’re currently experiencing disruption across the network due to a global third-party IT outage which is out of our control.”
Britain's biggest train company has warned passengers to expect disruption due to "widespread IT issues."
GP surgeries in the UK are reporting problems with their systems meaning patients can't book appointments.
The London Stock Exchange has also faced technical issues which delayed the start of trade and affected its market news service.
Microsoft are working to mitigate the issue, but it could take quite a while to get things back up and running.
This outage shows that even the biggest tech giants are not immune to disruptions, and the need for robust disaster recovery plans are more critical than ever.
