The benefits details of Colchester City Council’s residents were left exposed on an unsecured Amazon Data Bucket that was controlled by Capita. More than 7,000 people who were affected by the data breach were written to or emailed by Colchester City Council.

Capita said: "The data is secure and no longer accessible." It was reported that there was no evidence that the data was accessed for malicious purposes.
